(d) The spread of cancer cells from their initial site of formation to another area of the body occurs in metastasis cancer. In metastasis, cancer cells separate from the main tumour and move through the blood or lymphatic system to develop a new tumour in various body organs or tissues. The main tumor's malignancy has spread to a new, metastatic tumour. For instance, if breast cancer spreads to the lung, the cancer cells there are those of the breast, not the lung.
